Purpose and data covered

SearchMEP provides research and general-information access to the parliamentary trajectories of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs). The dataset contains public professional information drawn from official European Parliament pages: EP identifier, name, country, parliamentary terms and service dates, national parties, political groups and group roles, EP roles and bodies, committee and delegation affiliations, related parliamentary roles and source URLs.

SearchMEP also contains a research-coded gender field. It is derived first from gendered wording on the official French EP pages and, when that proxy is unavailable, from a documented manual review of the official profile, first name and profile photograph. This field is a research classification, not a self-declared identity field.

Sources, processing and visitors

SearchMEP is a static application. Searches, result expansion and exports are processed locally in the visitor’s browser; SearchMEP does not require an account and does not receive the content of the filters through an application database. If a visitor opens or shares a URL containing search filters, those query parameters may appear in standard web-server logs together with technical data such as IP address, user agent, date and requested resource, according to the hosting provider’s configuration and retention rules.

SearchMEP does not set its own analytics or advertising cookies. Fonts are requested from Google Fonts, which means the visitor’s browser connects to Google’s servers. The email links use the visitor’s own email application.

Legal basis and controller

The controller identifies Article 6(1)(e) GDPR as the legal basis for processing this public professional information for research and public-information purposes.

Accuracy, updates and rights

The source pages may contain omissions or inconsistencies. SearchMEP preserves source labels where relevant, documents editorial normalisations and provides a contact link for reporting an error. The current dataset has a data cut-off of 7 July 2026.

Subject to the conditions and limits of applicable law, data subjects may request access, rectification, restriction or erasure, and may object to processing. Requests should identify the relevant MEP record and source page. Data subjects also have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.
